Too Much-but not enuff! but, LATELY-It’s all about the ands…
Focusing statements and/a goal(s) for the foreseeable future.
With all the information overload AND a pandemic and a lack of skills in computers and the internet in communication and . ..and… and…
It seems to be a whole new world of the dog ate my home work, but —
It has become all about adapting to a new world way of doing things in the middle of a pandemic and so many life altering events. So much to learn-especially about joy and gratitude. So many new things to learn and adapt to even just the normal things of aging-perhaps a bit overwhelming!
So why did I stop blogging about tapestry and technique and my love of all things tapestry?
I allowed myself to be marginalized and pigeonholed in my thinking in a world of I can’t do this and a few toxic professional relationships and some very toxic comments about my tapestries… and being a between. So enuff is enuff. I am- who I am. If You don’t like what I am writing–Please kindly stop reading or join the discussion in a positive way, but stop and think that words and pictures really matter and should be available to everyone not based on economics, age, race, gender, politics the list could go on forever-unfortunately. If you dislike my tapestry designs, format or scale and or narrative you don’t have to read or think about what I write or even agree with my ideas. BUT, do know that I respect and want to read and see what your ideas and techniques are all about. . AND, most of all I want to teach, explore, be curious, be joyous, be taught and share 42 years of and beyond (I began as a small child in a corner of my Grandparents store without knowing I was weaving tapestry!-so I
am not sure if that time counts as a tapestry weaver-. of my tapestry weaving experiences- but always in a mutually inclusive respectable way of and to others and their life experiences… After all is said and done– I am still a tapestry weaver and a teller of stories and designer since 1978-etc., etc., etc, and etc.
So here’s what I am doing about my goals, directions and resolutions.
First of all— Wednesday’s group or the Between & Etc studio hours will continue on zoom-every Wednesday at 1:00 PST. Any level of weaver of any style of tapestry weaving or format is welcome to be there to discuss anything tapestry related or ask for help from the group, or me, or just hang out. The conversations are amazing. I am so grateful to those that choose to hang out and discuss Tapestry in this group on Wednesdays. I think participation is now across 10-11 time zones. AND, WE are having a great time hanging out and sharing discussing all things tapestry. So why Wednesday? Wednesdays are the middle of the week. I work 8-12 hour days that revolve a round tapestry. By Wednesday I am so in need of a break for a time of gratitude, contemplation and a change of pace.. Well, Wednesdays group works for me.
For those who can not come to the Wednesday’s group hours (1-3 PST) You can call me on either side of the zoom meeting. I’ll do my best to help you– answering or discussing technical questions or find a solution to tapestry questions on Wednesdays(NC) or point you in the direction of someone who knows more. No charge… Wednesdays zoom group is a place that anyone can come and ask questions about tapestry and tapestry technique or just come to share what they are
doing or maybe writing about tapestry or ask for support as they weave. No Cost. Every style of tapestry weaving is acceptable. To be part of Wednesdays group you need to get an RSVP/ticket from the first page of my website-betweenand etc.com. Click on the words going. You will be sent to your e-mail address a ticket/RSVP. By clicking on join zoom meeting each week you can be admitted to the waiting room and then into the actual meeting. Please contact me at betweenandetc@comcast.net and I’ll do my best to help you get on. At this point my best can be a little questionable, but I am learning along with everyone else. BUT, I do have friends and babysitter that can probably help you if need be.
On the other 6 days a week I will be teaching and marketing tapestry stuff and my tapestries. I am a small format/small scale weaver and teacher who attempts to make available small amounts of supplies and tools for tapestry weavers. Many suppliers sell in such large quantities that the cost to set your self up can be prohibitive or you end up with a several life times of product that can be overwhelming when it no longer suits your needs as a small format weaver or beginner. At this point in time I will be/am teaching one on one. I have a list of possible paths of study that can be chosen on my web site as products. I can/will create personalized studies for individual needs, mentoring and scheduling for “my style” of tapestry weaving. My style began as Gobelin weaving from the front and has evolved into a American melting pot of what ever works to do my semi stylized pictorial narratives. I teach both large format and small format weaving and large scale and small scale with additions of vertical soumak, twining and other techniques. Which also means I do not teach Navajo style weaving as much as I love and admire it, BUT, I can refer you to some wonderful Navajo teachers that do teach Navajo style. I also do private critiques for individuals and individual pieces and suggest techniques and paths to follow.
So feel free to join the Wednesday group! Be happy and safe! Wear a mask!
Cheers and all,
kathe
Thank you, Kathe! You have taught me so much about tapestry and more. Our time together has challenged me to ponder what and why things are important to me and how to incorporate those things into very personal and meaningful tapestry pieces… and enjoying all the techniques along the way! It’s been a pleasure to know you personally and professionally. Thanks for all the opportunities to learn and the encouragement you give!
Kathe, I love our Tuesday Salon. I am a very new weaver at age 74, You have a very diverse group of talented weavers that I am learning from. Always stay true to YOU.
You being you, is just right.
Wednesday are now my favorite day of the week! As a new tapestry weaver, I enjoy learning from the discussions. It’s also great to hear conversations on new concepts I’ve learned from reading. Thank you for making Wednesdays the best day of the week!
Mine too! I am really loving it! See you Wednesday.
One of the things I most love about you, Kathe, is that you have the largeness of spirit to inspire others to become more themselves as weavers and people.
