The emphasis of this tapestry workshop is to teach the participants how to create tapestry colour mixes so that a limited amount of colours can be used to create a huge diversity of colour ranges while weaving a tapestry. There will be an introduction to colour theory and its use in tapestry technique. Emphasis will be placed on colour mixing on the bobbin (mélange and Chine) and such weaving techniques as pick and pick, hachures, hatching, crenulated weave structures and colour fades. Warp direction techniques –hachure hatching, crenellation. Weft direction-chené, mélange, colour fade pick and pick and then blends them together to work together. These are all non-dyeing techniques.
The students will be encouraged to weave and design a small tapestry incorporating these techniques along with a woven sample.
